Mumbai, May 29: Filmmaker Karan Johar recently sparked widespread speculation after unfollowing several Bollywood celebrities and close friends on Instagram. However, reports now suggest that the move was not linked to any personal fallout but was instead part of a broader social media strategy.

According to a report by Filmfare, Karan Johar’s decision to unfollow multiple actors and industry personalities was purely related to social media management and had nothing to do with any specific individual.

The development grabbed significant attention online as the filmmaker is known for maintaining close friendships within the film industry.

Among those reportedly unfollowed by Johar were Shah Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Manish Malhotra, Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra, Malaika Arora and Ananya Panday.

Interestingly, actor Kartik Aaryan was also reportedly removed from Johar’s following list despite being associated with Dharma Productions’ upcoming film Naagzilla.

Social media users were quick to speculate about possible rifts within the industry after noticing the changes on Johar’s Instagram account.

However, sources quoted in the report clarified that the filmmaker’s move was merely a strategic social media decision rather than a reflection of strained personal relationships.

Notably, Priyanka Chopra Jonas is reportedly the only Bollywood actor currently being followed by Johar on Instagram.

On the professional front, Karan Johar recently backed the romantic drama Chaand Mera Dil, starring Ananya Panday and Lakshya in lead roles.

Directed and co-written by Vivek Soni, the film revolves around two college lovers whose relationship undergoes challenges as they transition into adulthood and face new responsibilities.

The movie also featured Aastha Singh, Paresh Pahuja, Manish Chaudhari, Iravati Harshe Mayadev, Charu Shankar, Atul Kumar, Akhil Kaimal and Javed Khan in important roles.

Released in theatres on May 22, 2026, Chaand Mera Dil received mixed reviews from critics.
