Mumbai, May 26: Devendra Fadnavis has said that India is emerging as a strong and independent global power that does not function under pressure from any country, while highlighting the nation’s firm stand on foreign policy, defence and trade agreements.
Speaking about international developments and India’s relations with various countries, Fadnavis said the country has adopted a strong approach in dealing with global trade and geopolitical challenges.
“We must pay attention to foreign policy and defence. A new India is emerging, one that does not bow to pressure from anyone. In recent times, trade has become a weapon and several trade barriers were imposed on India. However, India did not go as a petitioner seeking concessions,” he said.

Fadnavis stated that India made it clear that trade treaties would only be accepted if they protected the interests of Indian farmers.
“India maintained a firm stand till the end. Even while negotiating agreements with the United States, India ensured that subsidised American agricultural products could not enter the Indian market barrier-free. The government worked to protect Indian farmers,” he said.
The Chief Minister added that India has now become an important global market, prompting several countries and regions to strengthen economic ties with New Delhi.
“Europe has entered into Free Trade Agreements with India. We are no longer in a trade deficit situation with many important countries. In fact, India exports more to several nations than it imports from them. Agreements with countries such as Australia have opened large markets for India,” he said.
Claiming that India has established a strong position globally, Fadnavis said world leaders are increasingly keen on maintaining friendly relations with the country.
“In every war-like situation, India has firmly presented its position without taking sides. Today, leaders across the world are saying they want friendship with India,” he said.
Referring to recent remarks by Donald Trump, Fadnavis said the US President had described India as a friend and expressed readiness to support India’s requirements.
“Whether it is the US, Russia, Europe or even countries involved in conflicts, all are saying they share friendly ties with India,” he remarked.
Fadnavis also said India’s balanced diplomatic approach could place the country in a crucial economic position once ongoing global conflicts come to an end.
Highlighting India’s military capabilities, the Chief Minister said the country demonstrated its strategic strength through “Operation Sindoor”.
“India was not only facing Pakistan, but indirectly confronting China as well, since Pakistan was receiving weapons and logistical support from China,” he alleged.
He said India showcased the capabilities of indigenous drones and missile systems and successfully neutralised enemy threats.
“They launched Chinese drones and missiles at India, but not a single attack succeeded. Our air defence systems intercepted and destroyed all incoming drones and missiles mid-air,” Fadnavis claimed.
