Colva, May 25: Pre-monsoon showers that brought temporary relief from rising temperatures on Sunday also triggered widespread power disruptions across several coastal villages in Salcete, leaving residents frustrated as electricity supply remained unstable throughout the day.
The interruptions began early in the morning after light rainfall was reported around 6.30 a.m. in parts of the region. Soon after the showers, residents of Cavelossim, Carmona, Orlim and parts of Varca started experiencing frequent and unscheduled power cuts.

According to locals, electricity outages lasting between 30 and 45 minutes repeatedly disrupted daily activities. In many areas, supply was restored only briefly for a few minutes before being cut again for longer durations, with the cycle continuing repeatedly until evening.
Assistant Engineer Nicolau Moraes, who oversees the Carmona and Benaulim substations, said the problem was caused by a technical fault at the Velim substation.
He explained that the substation developed charging-related issues, forcing technical teams to undertake emergency shutdowns in order to carry out repairs and stabilise the power network.
The Velim substation serves as a major power source for the Carmona substation, which supplies electricity to several coastal villages including Cavelossim, Carmona, Orlim and parts of Varca. As a result, the technical issue at Velim led to repeated interruptions across the entire belt.
Moraes said electricity department personnel were working continuously to rectify the fault and restore normal power supply as quickly as possible.
