Karkala, May 20: A major road accident near Belman panchayat office on Wednesday evening ended in what locals described as a miraculous escape, after a car crashed into the rear of a stationary lorry, leaving the vehicle extensively damaged but its occupants with only minor injuries.

According to sources, the lorry had been loaded with jelly from a crusher in Nandalike and was parked by the roadside near the Panchayat parking area while en route towards Karwar.

At the same time, a car travelling from Mudigere towards Padubidri reportedly lost control and rammed at high speed into the rear of the parked lorry.

The impact was severe enough to completely crumple the front portion of the car. However, in what is being described as a providential escape, the driver and other passengers miraculously survived the crash with minor injuries and were stated to be out of danger.

Local residents said the stretch has become accident-prone, alleging that heavy vehicles, including lorries and tipper trucks, are frequently parked on both sides of the highway during evening hours, creating dangerous conditions for motorists and leading to repeated mishaps.

Glad to hear they only had minor injuries- God was with them. The police should very strictly emphasize the use of HAZZARD LIGHTS turned ON when a vehicle is parked in the highways or anywhere where it should not be parked, this way at least there is some kind of indication to the oncoming vehicle or vehicles approaching from the back, and we all know how strictly we as Indians follow rules. End of the day it all come to how the drivers are trained in the driving schools and how they pass their driving test. May be heavy vehicle drivers need to be checked often if they know the rules of safe driving, as most the heavy vehicle drivers are who train the next gen of drivers who are their cleaners, when the cleaners see that the driver breaking rules without any consequences or getting away bribing the cops, they learn the same.. and someday turns fatal for themselves are others on the road, we not only need highspeed highway, but driver education is also necessary. Safe travels everyone.
