12 killed in horrific wedding convoy accident near Palghar

Palghar, May 19: At least 12 people were killed in a horrific road accident on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway near Dhanivari in Palghar after an Eicher truck carrying a wedding party rammed into a container vehicle.

The collision was so severe that both vehicles overturned on the highway.

According to reports, more than 100 people were travelling in the truck at the time of the accident. Around 20 to 25 persons sustained serious injuries and were admitted to the Kasa sub-district hospital for treatment.

The tragic incident cast a shadow over the wedding celebrations, leaving relatives and locals in deep shock and grief.

Sources said the accident occurred around 3.30 pm when the vehicle carrying wedding guests was travelling from Bapu village in Dahanu towards Dhanivari for an engagement ceremony.

Near Dhanivari, a container truck travelling from Gujarat towards Mumbai reportedly lost control and overturned onto the wedding vehicle, triggering the fatal crash.

Following the accident, chaos erupted at the spot as local residents rushed to help with rescue operations. All injured passengers were shifted to the Kasa sub-district hospital.

Officials said the death toll currently stands at 12, but fears remain that the number could rise due to the severity of injuries sustained by several victims.

Eyewitnesses described heartbreaking scenes as family members and wedding guests broke down after losing their loved ones in front of their eyes.

On receiving information about the incident, MP Hemant Savara visited the accident site and assured all possible assistance for the injured.

Authorities have begun clearing the overturned container from the highway with the help of cranes.
