Bantwal: 52-year-old scooterist dies in collision with speeding pickup near Vittal

Bantwal, May 18: A fatal road accident involving a pickup truck and an Activa scooter claimed the life of the two-wheeler rider at Koovethila near Mittur on the Mani-Mysuru state highway on Monday, May 18.

The deceased has been identified as Saleem (52), a resident of Kabaka. By profession, he was engaged in sofa and vehicle cushion works.

According to sources, the accident occurred while Saleem was returning after completing cushion work for a vehicle at the Darul Islam Educational Institution in Mittur. A pickup truck, reportedly driven at a reckless speed from the Kabaka direction towards Mittur, rammed into his scooter.

Despite wearing a helmet, the severe impact of the collision left Saleem with critical injuries to his head, hands, and legs. Local residents immediately rushed him to a hospital in Puttur, but he succumbed to his injuries.

Following the collision, the driver of the pickup truck lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn onto a mound by the side of the road.
