Indian Wells: Sania-Vesnina in Quarters


Indian Wells, (California), Mar 13 (IANS): India's Sania Mirza and her Russian partner Elena Vesnina advanced to the quarterfinals of the women's doubles at the BNP Parisbas Open at Indian Wells after beating Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland and Italian Alberta Brianti.

Sania-Vesnina had to wait till the super tie-break to book their berth after going down in the second set. The second seeded Indo-Russian team took an hour and two minutes to defeat the Swiss-Italian pair 6-1, 3-6, (10-2).

They will face the winner of the match between Romanian Irina Camelia Begu-Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain and Argentinean pairing of Gisela Dulko-Paola Suarez.
