Tilak Varma to lead India A in Sri Lanka tri-series

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi

New Delhi, May 15: Young batter Tilak Varma has been appointed captain of the India A team for the upcoming tri-series in Sri Lanka, with promising youngsters Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Priyansh Arya also earning places in the squad.

The tri-series, featuring India A, Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A, is scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka later this month as part of preparations for future international assignments.

The selection reflects the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s continued focus on grooming emerging talent through the India A structure.

Tilak Varma, who has already represented India in white-ball cricket, will lead a squad packed with several rising domestic and IPL performers.

Among the notable inclusions are teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and attacking opener Priyansh Arya, both of whom impressed selectors with their recent performances in domestic tournaments and franchise cricket.

The squad also features a mix of experienced India A players and emerging talents expected to be monitored closely for senior national selection in the future.

The tri-series is expected to provide valuable overseas exposure to young players in subcontinental conditions ahead of upcoming international and domestic seasons.

The tournament will be played in a round-robin format followed by a final between the top two teams.
