Three injured in multi-vehicle crash at Cacora; locals blame pothole-ridden roads

Curchorem, May 15: Three persons sustained injuries after a truck, a newly purchased car and an ambulance were involved in a major accident at Cacora in Curchorem, triggering fresh concerns over the worsening condition of roads in the area.

According to sources, the accident occurred when a car carrying a family returning from a wedding function reportedly came under the impact of a truck, causing extensive damage to the vehicle.

Locals at the scene said an ambulance travelling behind the vehicles attempted to apply sudden brakes after the initial collision but rammed into the rear side of the MG car, leading to a secondary accident.

Three occupants of the car sustained injuries in the mishap and were shifted to the Curchorem Health Centre for treatment.

Residents blamed the poor condition of roads and ongoing sewerage works for the accident, alleging that potholes and dug-up stretches had turned several roads into “death traps”.

Locals claimed motorists are frequently forced to swerve suddenly to avoid potholes and damaged sections, significantly increasing the risk of accidents.

They also criticised the Public Works Department and the government for allegedly ignoring repeated complaints regarding the deteriorating road conditions.

Residents expressed concern that the situation could worsen further during the monsoon if immediate repair works are not undertaken.

Police personnel reached the accident site and conducted a panchnama. Further investigation is underway.
