Ship seized near UAE coast, taken toward Iranian waters: UK maritime agency

Daijiworld Media Network – Dubai

Dubai, May 14: A vessel anchored off the eastern coast of the United Arab Emirates has been seized by unidentified personnel and is reportedly being taken toward Iranian territorial waters, the British military said on Thursday.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) centre said it received reports that the ship was boarded while anchored around 38 nautical miles (approximately 70 km) northeast of Fujairah port, near the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

The agency, however, did not disclose the identity of the vessel and said investigations into the incident are currently underway.

Fujairah is a key oil export hub and the UAE’s principal port outside the Persian Gulf. The region has witnessed repeated maritime tensions in recent years amid ongoing regional conflicts involving Iran.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most sensitive shipping corridors for global energy supplies.
