Mangaluru: Community Wedding held at St Lawrence Church, Bondel

Media Release

Mangaluru, May 11: Bondel parish witnessed a grace-filled Community Wedding Celebration as six couples entered into the sacred bond of marriage together on Sunday, May 9.

The eucharistic celebration was solemnly presided over by Dr Wilfred Gregory Moras, bishop of Jhansi diocese, along with Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza, Fr Lawrence Cutinha, Fr Peter Gonsalves, Fr Ravi Kumar MSIJ, and Fr Prem Prakash D’Souza.

In his inspiring homily, Bishop Moras reminded the couples that true love must be expressed through sacrifice, care, forgiveness, and understanding, just as Christ loved the Church. He highlighted five important values for a blessed married life: placing God first, devotion to Mother Mary, mutual respect and forgiveness, spending quality time together, and remaining faithful to promises.

Following the Holy Mass, the newly married couples, along with the bishop, clergy, and parish leaders, proceeded joyfully towards the stage amidst festive band music. The couples cut the wedding cake together and exchanged garlands and Mangalsutra (Kariamani), symbolizing love, unity, and lifelong commitment.

Fr Peter Gonsalves raised the toast for the couples and appreciated the initiative of Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza in organizing this meaningful celebration. On behalf of all the couples, Mervin and Sunitha expressed gratitude to the bishop, parish clergy, and parishioners for their love, support, and prayers.

As part of the tradition, the couples received blessings from their parents and gifts from the parish clergy and PPC members. Bishop Moras also congratulated Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza for this wonderful initiative and shared three simple rules for a successful married life — help each other, give time to each other, and always live with humanity and understanding.

The programme was compered by Wilfred Alvares and concluded with a fellowship meal for all.
