Mysuru: MLC H Vishwanath bids farewell to electoral politics

Mysuru, May 7: Karnataka Legislative Council member H Vishwanath on Thursday announced that he would no longer contest elections, stating that he lacked the financial strength to spend huge amounts required in present-day electoral politics.

Addressing reporters in Mysuru, Vishwanath said he was unable to afford the kind of money now allegedly needed to fight elections.

“I do not have the capacity to spend Rs 50 crore and contest elections. Hence, I will not contest any election in the future,” he said.

The senior politician recalled that during his earlier political career, people themselves had supported him financially and blessed him during elections.

“When I contested elections several times in the past, people contributed money and supported me wholeheartedly. But now, the situation has changed where candidates are expected to spend money to face elections,” he remarked.

Though stepping away from electoral contests, Vishwanath clarified that he would continue to remain active in politics.

“I am bidding farewell to electoral politics, but I will continue to stay in public and political life,” he added.
