Chennai, May 6: Veteran film producer RB Choudhary passed away following a car accident in Udaipur, Rajasthan, on May 5. The exact cause of the crash and the condition of others involved are yet to be confirmed.
Choudhary, a prominent name in South Indian cinema, began his production journey in 1988 under the banner Super Good Films. He made his Tamil debut with Pudhu Vasantham (1990), which marked the directorial debut of Vikraman and earned him a Tamil Nadu State Film Award.
He went on to produce several successful films including Cheran Pandiyan (1991), Oor Mariyadhai (1992), Gokulam (1993), Nattamai (1994), Poove Unakkaga (1996), Suryavamsam (1997), Thullatha Manamum Thullum (1999), Aanandham (2001), Keerthi Chakra (2006), Jilla (2014), Godfather (2021), and most recently Maareesan (2025).
Over the years, he played a key role in introducing and promoting several talents in the industry, including directors KS Ravikumar, Rasu Madhuravan, S Ezhil, Perarasu, and Rajakumaran, as well as actor Livingston.
Choudhary produced films featuring leading actors such as Sarath Kumar, Vijay, and Venkatesh, many of which were well received by audiences. For his contribution to Tamil cinema, he received seven Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and four Cinema Express Awards.
He is survived by his sons, actors Jiiva and Jithan Ramesh, both of whom have featured in films produced under the Super Good Films banner.
According to reports, the accident occurred around 3 pm on May 5. His mortal remains are expected to be brought to Chennai on May 6.
