Mumbai, May 2: Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff remembered legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray on his 104th birth anniversary, marking the occasion with a heartfelt social media post.

Sharing a black-and-white portrait of Ray seated beside a film camera, Shroff wrote a brief tribute, honoring the iconic director’s enduring legacy in Indian and global cinema.

Born on May 2, 1921, in Kolkata, Ray is widely regarded as one of the greatest filmmakers in the history of world cinema. He made his directorial debut with Pather Panchali, which brought him international recognition, including acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival.

Over the years, Ray created a remarkable body of work, including classics like Aparajito, Apur Sansar, Charulata, Nayak, Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne, Shatranj Ke Khilari, and Ghare Baire.

Across a career spanning nearly four decades, Ray directed more than 35 films, documentaries, and short films, leaving a lasting influence on filmmakers worldwide. He passed away on April 23, 1992, in Kolkata at the age of 70 after battling heart-related health issues.

Shortly before his death, Ray received an honorary award at the Academy Awards, recognising his exceptional contribution to cinema.
