Three interstate thieves from Mumbai arrested for snatching gold bangle at Byndoor bus stand

Udupi, May 1: Police have arrested three interstate thieves from Mumbai for allegedly diverting a woman’s attention and cutting away her gold bangle at the Byndoor bus stand.

The arrested have been identified as Avinash Sunil Gaikwad (27), Santoshi Vishal Jadhav (31), and Archana Sushil Jadhav (40), all residents of Ambernath in Thane district, Maharashtra.

Police have recovered a gold bangle weighing 17.27 grams, valued at around Rs 2.5 lac, along with a cutter used in the crime and a mobile phone.

According to police, the incident occurred on April 27 at around 2.45 pm when Sahna Pai was waiting at the bus stand near the Byndoor taluk office to travel to Dharwad. Two women approached her and engaged her in conversation, diverting her attention.

Taking advantage of the distraction, another accomplice came from behind and used a cutter to snip off the gold bangle from her hand before fleeing the scene.

A case was registered at the Byndoor police station, following which the accused were traced and arrested. Further investigation is underway.
