Udupi, Apr 30: A violent altercation arising from a financial dispute between two fishing traders at Malpe port has resulted in the registration of a case and a counter-case at the Malpe police station.

According to the complaint filed by Harish, he and Jayesh Kotian are both engaged in the fishing business. Jayesh allegedly owed money to Harish. On April 30, at around 11:00 am, while Harish was at the auction dock of Malpe harbour in Kodavoor village, a group comprising Bharathi Kotian (Jayesh’s mother), Uday Poojary alias Kori Uday, Sheku Katapady, and Purushotham arrived in a white car.

The group allegedly verbally abused Harish in Tulu, physically assaulted him, and pushed him onto the concrete road. It is further alleged that Jayesh Kotian kicked Harish in the chest and private parts, and attempted to stab him with a knife. Harish managed to escape and was rushed by locals to a private hospital in Udupi for treatment.

In a counter-complaint, Bharathi Kotian filed a case against Harish, following which the Malpe police registered a second case.

Meanwhile, a video of the assault recorded by a bystander has surfaced on social media and has since gone viral.

Police have confirmed that both cases are registered and an investigation is currently underway.
