Mumbai, Apr 30: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a 30-hour water cut across several parts of South and Central Mumbai beginning May 5, as it undertakes work to commission a new water tunnel.
According to the civic body, water supply will remain suspended from 10 am on May 5 to 4 pm on May 6 in multiple wards, including F/North (Matunga, Sion, Wadala), F/South (Parel, Sewri), L ward (Kurla, Saki Naka), M/East (Govandi, Mankhurd), M/West (Chembur) and N ward (Ghatkopar, Vidyavihar).
The disruption is part of BMC’s infrastructure upgrade to connect a new 1,800-mm-diameter water tunnel stretching from Amar Mahal to Pratiksha Nagar in Wadala. The project aims to strengthen water distribution by linking key supply points, including Parel, the Trombay reservoir, and the Turbhe high-level reservoir.
Residents in the affected areas have been advised to store adequate water in advance and use it judiciously during the shutdown period.
