Manchester, Apr 28: English club Manchester City has suffered another major setback after captain Bernardo Silva’s departure, with star defender John Stones confirming that he will leave the club at the end of the summer transfer window.

The 31-year-old will depart as a free agent after completing a decade-long spell at the Etihad Stadium. Since joining City in 2016 as one of Pep Guardiola’s early signings, Stones has made 293 appearances for the club and played a key role in its modern era of dominance.

During his time at Manchester City, he helped the club secure 19 major trophies, including six Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League, two FA Cups, five Carabao Cups, three Community Shields, as well as the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

Stones was also an integral part of City’s historic treble-winning campaign in 2023, starting both the FA Cup final against Manchester United and the Champions League final against Inter Milan.

Announcing his departure through an emotional video on Instagram, Stones reflected on his journey, calling Manchester City his “home for the past 10 years.” He described his transformation from a young arrival into a mature player and family man, expressing gratitude for the support he received throughout his career.

He said he fulfilled his dreams at the club and built a deep bond with teammates, staff, and fans, adding that he never imagined achieving so much when he first joined.

Manchester City has acknowledged his decision and is expected to organise a formal farewell and tribute to honour his contributions to the club.
