Udupi: Life imprisonment awarded in 2022 Hiriyadka double murder case

Udupi, Apr 28: The district second additional sessions court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the brutal double murder of a father and son that took place in Hiriyadka in 2022.

The convict, identified as 32-year-old Sunil, was found guilty of murdering his neighbors, 60-year-old Ramakrishna and 28-year-old Sharath, following a dispute over a property boundary. The incident, which occurred in October 2022, had sent shockwaves through the local community due to its violent nature.

According to the prosecution, Sunil attacked the duo with a lethal weapon during an argument near their residence. Both victims succumbed to their injuries on the spot. The Hiriyadka police had arrested the accused within 24 hours of the crime and filed a comprehensive chargesheet supported by forensic evidence and eyewitness accounts.

Pronouncing the judgment, the sessions judge observed that the evidence established the accused's intent beyond reasonable doubt. Along with life imprisonment, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict, specifying that the amount be paid as compensation to the surviving family members of the victims.
