Los Angeles, Apr 26: Director David Frankel has revealed that he briefly considered bringing back Nate, the former boyfriend of Andy Sachs, in The Devil Wears Prada 2 — but the idea never made it to the screen.
According to reports by Deadline, Frankel thought about “sneaking” in Adrian Grenier for a surprise cameo. However, the plan was ultimately dropped due to timing constraints during production.
While the director didn’t reveal how Nate would have been reintroduced, he praised Grenier’s recent self-aware appearance in a Starbucks commercial, noting his sense of humor and humility.

The character of Nate has long been debated among fans of the original The Devil Wears Prada, with many criticizing his behavior toward Andy as she pursued her demanding career in fashion. Their relationship arc in the first film ended ambiguously, leaving room for speculation.
Grenier himself recently acknowledged he wasn’t contacted for the sequel, suggesting that fan backlash toward his character might have influenced the decision. He also hinted that Nate’s story could potentially be explored in a spin-off.
Set to release on May 1, the sequel reunites original stars including Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. The story follows Andy’s return to Runway Magazine two decades after leaving her job under Miranda Priestly.
As the publication struggles to stay relevant in a rapidly changing media environment, Miranda and Andy must convince Emily — now a powerful executive in the luxury fashion world — to support the magazine through crucial advertising deals.
