Mumbai, Apr 25: Comedian Raj Sharma passed away on Friday, with the news confirmed by actor-comedian Vir Das through an emotional social media post.

Sharing a heartfelt tribute, Vir Das recalled their long association and described Raj Sharma as a “good friend” with a big heart. He also credited Sharma for giving him his first break at the Laugh Factory and encouraging him to perform in the American comedy circuit.

In his post, Vir Das remembered Sharma’s exceptional talent, particularly his crowd work, which he said was “almost unparalleled”. He noted that Sharma played a key role in his early career and was someone who celebrated others’ success while offering honest feedback.

Calling him “almost impossible to follow” on stage, Vir Das paid his final respects, describing him as both a remarkable comedian and a cherished friend.

The cause of Raj Sharma’s death has not been disclosed.

Raj Sharma had a career spanning over two decades and began performing in Dallas, Texas. He later co-founded the touring comedy show “Indians at The Improv”, which gained popularity and drew large audiences across Texas.
