Mangaluru, Apr 25: Father Muller College of Allied Health Sciences (FMCOAHS), in association with its NSS Wing, organized a strong awareness programme on anti-ragging and substance abuse on April 20, reinforcing its commitment to a safe, disciplined, and drug-free campus.

The programme commenced with a session on the anti-ragging policy for first-year students. Dr Nagesh K R, professor of forensic medicine at Father Muller Medical College and convener of the Anti-Ragging Committee, sensitized students on the serious consequences of ragging, relevant legal provisions, and the importance of fostering a culture of respect and empathy within academic institutions. Students actively participated and took a pledge to maintain a ragging-free campus.

This was followed by a session under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan initiative, focusing on the rising concern of substance abuse among youth and the need to promote a healthy and responsible lifestyle.

The chief guest, Geetha D Kulkarni, ACP - City Crime Records Bureau, delivered a powerful address on cyber safety and substance abuse. She cautioned students about common online frauds, shared emergency helplines and presented key data reflecting the increasing trend of drug-related cases in the region.

In her motivational talk, she urged students to become responsible change-makers and torchbearers in the fight against substance abuse. She emphasized the importance of informed choices, discipline, and youth leadership in shaping a safer society.

Dr Michael Santhumayor, administrator of Father Muller College of Allied Health Sciences, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the serious consequences of drug abuse. He further shared three important instructions for the discipline, growth, and overall development of Allied Health Sciences students.

The programme concluded with an anti-drug pledge led by Valerie Lobo, NSS programme officer. Renita, NSS student coordinator, proposed the vote of thanks. The event concluded with the National Anthem.

The programme was coordinated by Dr Shivashankara A R, principal and chairperson of the Anti-Ragging Committee, along with Dr Nirmala Kumari, convener of the Anti-Ragging Committee, Valerie Ann Lobo, NSS programme officer, and Ajay Chand, deputy NSS programme officer.

The event was compered by Adele D’Souza, NSS volunteer.
