Puttur, Apr 23:
A group of five to six individuals reportedly assaulted and issued life threats to a private college student near the KSRTC bus stand on April 22 evening.

The victim, identified as Adil, was having tea with his friends Suhail and Azhar near the KSRTC bus stand in Puttur Kasaba village around 6 pm on April 22. According to the complaint, a group including known acquaintances B K Moinuddin, Mohad, and five others suddenly approached Adil and launched an unprovoked attack.

When Adil’s friends attempted to intervene and stop the assault, the group reportedly threatened them as well. As a crowd began to gather at the spot, the assailants allegedly abused Adil in foul language and issued life threats before fleeing the scene.

It is gathered that the motive behind the attack dates back a few months when Adil had intervened to stop Moinuddin and his associates from assaulting other students at the college. The complaint states that the group carried a grudge over that incident and orchestrated this retaliatory attack.

The injured Adil has been admitted to the Puttur Government Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

A case has been registered at the Puttur City Police Station under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS 2023), including charges of assault and criminal intimidation. The police are currently investigating the matter to apprehend the accused.
