Beed, Apr 22: An attempt to sexually assault a minor girl was foiled in Majalgaon town of Maharashtra, after alert locals intervened and rescued her from the accused, police said.
According to officials, the victim, a Class 11 student of Sundarrao Solanke College, had gone to a cafe in the town after being called there on the pretext of exchanging study material.
However, upon reaching the spot, her friend was not present. Instead, the accused, identified as Rahmat Aleem Shaikh, was allegedly waiting at the location.

Police said the accused attempted to assault the girl when she was alone inside the cafe. The situation was averted after some youths present nearby noticed suspicious activity and immediately intervened, rescuing the girl.
The accused was later handed over to the police.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s mother, a case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
Police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident and are examining all angles. Officials said appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings of the probe.
The incident has raised concerns among residents regarding the safety of students, particularly those coming from rural areas for education. Authorities have assured strict action in the case.
