Shiva Narwal wins India’s first gold at ISSF Junior World Cup

Cairo, Apr 22: Shiva Narwal clinched India’s first gold medal by winning the men’s 10m air pistol event on the opening day of the ISSF Junior World Cup 2026 in Cairo.

Narwal, an Asian Games medallist, secured the top position with a score of 241.8. He had earlier topped the qualification round, maintaining his dominance through the final.

Sodikjon Abdullaev of Uzbekistan finished second with a score of 240.0, while Chirag Sharma bagged bronze with 218.9.

Earlier in the day, Panaah Bhugra won India’s first medal of the competition, securing silver in the women’s 10m air rifle event with a score of 250.6.

With one gold, one silver, and one bronze on the opening day, India topped the medal standings in the tournament.

A total of 284 athletes from 25 federations are participating in the event, with India fielding the largest contingent of 71 shooters.
