Mangaluru, Apr 21: A three-day English Proficiency Training Workshop was conducted from April 15 to 17 for the teaching staff of Lourdes Central School. The programme aimed at enhancing teachers’ language competence, improving classroom communication, and equipping educators with practical strategies for teaching English effectively.

The workshop was inaugurated in the presence of dignitaries including the CBE secretary Dr Praveen Leo Lasrado, manager Dr John Baptist Saldanha, principal Father Johnson L Sequeira, vice-principal Anitha Thomas, and the esteemed resource person, Prof Dr Arwin Rodrigues.

Objectives of the workshop

The training programme was designed with the following objectives:

• To strengthen teachers’ conceptual clarity of English grammar

• To enable teachers to teach grammar contextually rather than mechanically

• To improve spoken English and classroom language usage

• To provide practical strategies, activities, and examples for effective teaching

Programme highlights

The workshop commenced with a prayer followed by a formal inauguration ceremony, including lighting of the lamp and felicitation of the resource person. Addresses by the secretary, manager, and principal set a motivating tone for the sessions.

The academic sessions were conducted systematically through structured modules, covering both fundamental and advanced aspects of English grammar and usage.

The workshop adopted an interactive and practical approach which included

• Mini-lectures and demonstrations

• Group activities and discussions
