Premier League condemns racist abuse of Tottenham defender Kevin Danso

London, Apr 19: The Premier League has strongly condemned racist abuse directed at Kevin Danso on social media, reiterating that discrimination has no place in football or society and warning of strict action against offenders.

In a statement posted on X, the Premier League said anyone engaging in discriminatory abuse is “not welcome in our game” and does not represent true football fans. The league stressed that such behaviour undermines the spirit of the sport and vowed zero tolerance toward racism.

Officials acknowledged that tackling online abuse remains a persistent challenge despite ongoing campaigns and monitoring efforts. The league said stronger coordinated action is needed, involving clubs, law enforcement agencies, and social media platforms, to effectively address the issue.

Reaffirming its stance, the Premier League warned that individuals identified as responsible for racist abuse could face severe consequences, including stadium bans and legal prosecution.

The incident comes after Tottenham Hotspur also issued a strong condemnation of what it described as “vile and dehumanising racism” targeting Danso following their 2–2 draw against Brighton. The club confirmed that the matter has been reported to authorities and assured full support for the player.

Tottenham emphasized that Danso would not be left to face discrimination alone, stating that no player at the club would ever be isolated in such circumstances. The club further clarified that on-field performance can never justify racist behaviour, adding that abuse of this nature is a criminal offence and will not be tolerated.

Danso was targeted online after an error during the match contributed to Brighton’s late equaliser, but both the club and the league underlined that sporting mistakes can never be used as a basis for discriminatory attacks.
