Mumbai, Apr 19: Popular television actress Rupali Ganguly has strongly reacted to the reported defeat of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha, expressing deep disappointment through a video shared on social media.

The Anupamaa star questioned the contradiction between the cultural reverence for women and the lack of political representation. In her message, she highlighted how a country that worships goddesses and celebrates women’s strength has still not ensured adequate representation for women in Parliament despite decades of discussion around the bill.

Criticising those who opposed the legislation, Ganguly pointed out that while many public gestures and promises have been made in the name of women’s empowerment, the actual moment of decision saw a significant number of lawmakers vote against it. Referring to the voting figures, she remarked that although many supported the bill, a substantial section did not, which she interpreted as a denial of women’s voices in governance.

Calling the situation a “real-life drama,” the actress said that women across all communities are united in witnessing what she described as an injustice. She also warned that women across the country would remember the outcome and its implications.

Ganguly, who is also known for her role in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, concluded by asserting that millions of women in India are aware of the developments and will not easily forget what has transpired.
