Eugene, Apr 19: India’s rising athlete Selva Prabhu continued his strong 2026 season by winning the men’s triple jump event at the Oregon Team Invitational 2026.
Competing at the renowned Hayward Field, the 21-year-old secured the top spot with a best jump of 16.61 metres. He demonstrated impressive consistency throughout the event, also recording efforts of 16.57m and 16.37m.
Apalos Edwards finished second with a jump of 16.53m, while Jhavor Bennett claimed third place with 16.11m.

Prabhu, who previously won silver at the World Athletics U20 Championships 2022, has been building steady momentum this year. His personal best of 17.05m—achieved at the NCAA Indoor Championships 2026 in Fayetteville—remains the Indian indoor national record.
At the national level, the overall men’s triple jump record is held by Praveen Chithravel, who has cleared 17.37m twice.
This victory marks Prabhu’s third title of the season. He opened the year by winning the Thane Baker athletics meet in January with a jump of 16.49m, surpassing the qualification standard set by the Athletics Federation of India for the Asian Games 2026.
However, qualification alone does not guarantee selection. As per AFI guidelines, athletes must compete in at least three domestic events, including mandatory participation in state-level meets, to be eligible for final selection.
Earlier this month, Prabhu also secured first place at the Stanford Invitational with a jump of 15.76m. In addition, he has finished runner-up in three competitions this season, underlining his consistent form.
The Oregon Team Invitational is classified as a Category E meet on the World Athletics calendar.
