Amravati, Apr 17: Police probing a sexual exploitation case in Maharashtra’s Amravati district have detained 10 persons for questioning and deleted 41 social media accounts used to circulate obscene photos and videos of victims, officials said on Friday.

In a related development, a police official and two constables were suspended after a video surfaced showing them celebrating the birthday of the prime accused, raising concerns over the integrity of the probe.

The investigation began on April 11 after objectionable videos were found circulating online. Police have so far arrested eight persons, including the main accused Ayan Ahmed Tanveer Ahmed (19), who has been remanded in police custody till April 21.

Taking note of the seriousness of the case, the National Commission for Women (NCW) sought details through video conferencing, with Amravati Rural Police sharing updates on the ongoing investigation.

According to officials, the accused allegedly used a rented flat on Kathora Road to exploit victims. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) conducted a spot inspection at the premises and summoned the owner for questioning. Investigators also carried out panchnamas at multiple locations, including cafes in Kathora Road, Achalpur and Paratwada, as well as a garden near Wazzar dam, where the accused is believed to have met victims.

Police said the cyber cell has taken down 41 social media accounts involved in circulating the content. Victims have been urged to approach the SIT to file complaints or provide confidential statements.

Officials further informed the NCW that forensic analysis reports of three out of seven seized electronic devices are expected soon, while more than 20 additional suspects have been identified for allegedly forwarding the objectionable material.

Earlier, police had seized a laptop, a tablet and a hard disk from one of the accused as part of the investigation.
