New Delhi, Apr 17: US President Donald Trump on Thursday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “friend” and said he had a “very good talk” with the Indian leader amid ongoing diplomatic developments linked to West Asia and regional security concerns.
Responding to a query, Trump said, “I had a very good talk with him, and he’s a friend of mine from India, and he’s doing great. We had a very good conversation.”

The remarks follow PM Modi’s recent statement that he had received a call from Trump, during which the two leaders reviewed progress in bilateral ties and discussed key strategic issues.
“Received a call from my friend President Donald Trump. We reviewed the substantial progress achieved in our bilateral cooperation in various sectors. We are committed to further strengthening our Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership in all areas,” Modi said in a post.
He added that both sides also discussed the situation in West Asia, stressing the importance of ensuring stability in critical maritime routes, including keeping the Strait of Hormuz open and secure.
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor termed the exchange “a very positive and productive call,” indicating continued engagement between the two nations.
The conversation comes amid heightened diplomatic activity in West Asia, with global powers working to manage tensions and safeguard key shipping corridors.
Meanwhile, Trump also announced that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to initiate a 10-day ceasefire following intensified diplomatic efforts. He said he held “excellent conversations” with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, leading to the temporary truce.
Referring to recent talks in Washington, Trump noted that the two countries met for the first time in 34 years, facilitated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
He further said Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Rubio, and senior military officials have been tasked with pursuing efforts toward a lasting peace.
“It has been my honour to solve 9 wars across the world, and this will be my 10th, so let’s get it done!” Trump said.
The developments come as West Asia continues to witness complex geopolitical shifts, prompting intensified diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation.
