Infosys refutes harassment claims amid ongoing scrutiny of Maharashtra IT firms

New Delhi, Apr 16: Infosys has denied allegations of workplace harassment at its Business Process Management (BPM) facility in Pune, issuing a clarification amid heightened scrutiny of the IT sector in Maharashtra.

The controversy surfaced after a series of posts on the social media platform X alleged inappropriate behaviour towards female employees at the Pune office. However, the posts were later deleted.

Responding to the claims, Infosys reiterated its strict stance against workplace misconduct. “Infosys maintains a zero-tolerance approach to any form of harassment or discrimination,” the company said, adding that all complaints are reviewed by an independent committee under its global Code of Conduct.

The company also highlighted its “speak-up culture,” encouraging employees to report concerns through multiple internal channels, and confirmed that internal mechanisms have been activated to examine the matter.

The clarification comes as another major IT firm, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), faces an ongoing investigation into serious allegations at its Nashik facility.

The probe into the Nashik unit involves complaints from multiple women employees, alleging sexual harassment, stalking, inappropriate behaviour, and even pressure related to religious practices over a period spanning 2022 to 2026.

Authorities have reportedly reviewed over 40 CCTV footage clips and are recording statements from both complainants and accused individuals. An undercover operation involving women police personnel has also been conducted as part of the investigation.

In response, TCS has initiated its own internal inquiry, including surprise inspections and the formation of a special investigation committee. Around 120 employees at the Nashik facility have been asked to work from home as a precaution while the probe continues.

Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has set up a fact-finding committee to investigate the allegations at the TCS BPO unit. The panel is expected to submit its report within 10 working days.

The developments have drawn attention to workplace safety and accountability within India’s IT sector, with both government authorities and companies under pressure to ensure transparent and fair investigations.
