Mangaluru, Apr 14: Senior BJP leader and prominent Mogaveera community representative Ramachandra Baikampady passed away. He was known for his active role in politics and strong advocacy for the fishermen community in Dakshina Kannada.
Ramachandra Baikampady had a notable political journey. He had left the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to contest the 2013 assembly elections from Mangalore City North constituency as a candidate of the Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP). He later rejoined the BJP and remained an active aspirant for the party ticket from the Mangalore City North Assembly constituency.

He was a vocal representative of the fishing community (Mogaveera), consistently advocating for their inclusion, welfare, and development in the coastal region. In 2023, he had urged the BJP leadership to recognize the contribution of the community to the party’s success, stating that nearly 80 percent of the community supported the party based on Hindutva.
Ramachandra Baikampady had also raised concerns over the inadequate utilization of fisheries funds and had called for greater political representation for the fishermen community within the party.
In recognition of his contributions, he was among the Rajyotsava awardees from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.
His demise has been mourned by party leaders, community members, and well-wishers across the region.
