New Delhi, Apr 14: India’s teenage cricket prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could soon achieve a major milestone, with reports suggesting the 15-year-old has been shortlisted for a potential senior national team debut during the upcoming Ireland tour.

According to sources, the youngster is among several players being considered by selection panel led by Ajit Agarkar, as India is expected to field a second-string squad to test bench strength.

Sooryavanshi is also reportedly in contention for the Zimbabwe tour later this year, further boosting his chances of an early international debut.

The rising star has already made a strong impression in Indian Premier League 2026 with Rajasthan Royals, delivering explosive performances including a 26-ball 78 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, a 17-ball 52 versus Chennai Super Kings, and a 14-ball 39 against Mumbai Indians.

His remarkable form has drawn praise from several cricketing greats, including Irfan Pathan and Anil Kumble, who believe he is ready for the international stage.

IPL chairman Arun Dhumal also backed the youngster, stating that he deserves to become India’s youngest debutant.

Currently, the record for India’s youngest men’s international debut belongs to Sachin Tendulkar, who debuted at 16 years and 205 days, while Shafali Verma holds the overall national record, having debuted at just over 15 years of age.

India are scheduled to tour Ireland before heading to England for a white-ball series starting July 1, where senior players are expected to return to the squad.
