Moodbidri: Villagers block highway with soil over repeated accidents, protest unsafe road work

Moodbidri, Apr 14: Tension prevailed in Moodbidri on Monday after locals staged a protest by dumping soil using a tipper truck and blocking the Alangar–Karkala connecting national highway, citing frequent accidents in the area.

The highway stretch, where ongoing construction work is underway, has reportedly been witnessing a lack of adequate safety measures. In the past few days, multiple accidents have been reported here, claiming several lives. On Monday too, a car met with an accident, leaving its occupants injured.

Alleging negligence by concerned authorities despite repeated appeals, angry villagers brought soil in a tipper lorry and dumped it across the road, effectively blocking traffic.

The protestors accused the highway authority of carrying out unscientific road work and demanded immediate safety interventions to prevent further mishaps.
