Raisen (Madhya Pradesh), Apr 11: A three-day agricultural showcase, the ‘Unnat Krishi Mela’, got underway on Saturday in Raisen district, highlighting the Centre’s push toward modern, technology-led farming and sustainable rural development.
The national-level event was inaugurated at Dussehra Maidan by defence minister Rajnath Singh, alongside Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav. The ceremony began with the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by a collective rendition of ‘Vande Mataram’.

Scheduled from April 11 to 13, the expo brings together farmers, agricultural scientists, policymakers, and industry representatives from across the country. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between research and real-world application, offering farmers a clear pathway from innovation in laboratories to implementation in the field, and ultimately, access to markets.
Speaking at the event, Chouhan described the mela as more than just an exhibition. He emphasized its role as an interactive learning platform, featuring 20 focused sessions on diverse agricultural themes, along with practical demonstrations designed to enhance farmers’ knowledge and skills. He noted that the core objective is to explore effective ways to boost farm incomes while improving regional agricultural practices.
Spread across an expansive venue, the fair hosts nearly 300 stalls displaying a wide spectrum of agri-solutions—from high-quality seeds and fertilizers to crop protection products, micro-irrigation technologies, and modern farm equipment.
Live field demonstrations are a key highlight, introducing farmers to advanced machinery such as happy seeders, super seeders, reaper-binders, balers, and rotavators. Experts are providing hands-on guidance to help farmers understand how these tools can improve efficiency and productivity.
The event also features ongoing seminars and training sessions covering critical topics like soil health, crop diversification, natural farming methods, integrated nutrient and pest management, and post-harvest innovations. Scientists from Indian Council of Agricultural Research, agricultural universities, and Krishi Vigyan Kendras are engaging directly with farmers, offering region-specific advice.
Additional attractions include a mobile soil testing lab, working models of integrated farming systems, and specialized sections dedicated to dairy, fisheries, poultry, and goat farming. Financial institutions and insurance providers are also present, assisting farmers with crop insurance and credit services on the spot.
The event will conclude on April 13 in the presence of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, during which a comprehensive agricultural roadmap for Raisen, Vidisha, Sehore, and nearby regions will be unveiled. This roadmap is expected to focus on strategies such as crop diversification, water conservation, improved market access, and sustainable income growth for farmers.
