Ayush Shetty stuns world No. 4 Christie, enters Asia Championships semis

Ningbo, Apr 10: India’s Ayush Shetty pulled off a major upset by defeating world No. 4 Jonathan Christie of Indonesia to storm into the men’s singles semifinals of the Badminton Asia Championships in Ningbo on Friday.

Shetty registered a hard-fought 23-21, 21-17 victory in the quarterfinal, showcasing composure and attacking play against the higher-ranked opponent.

Earlier in the tournament, Shetty had defeated 20th-ranked Chi Yu Jen of Chinese Taipei in straight games 21-16, 21-12 in the round of 16. He began his campaign with another impressive win, overcoming world No. 7 and fifth seed Li Shi Feng of China 21-13, 21-16 in the opening round.

With a string of dominant performances, Shetty has emerged as one of the standout players of the tournament, advancing into the semifinals with confidence.
