Panaji, Apr 9: In preparation for the upcoming Shree Lairai Jatra at Shirigao, the North Goa District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has constituted a dedicated sub-committee to streamline stall approvals and ensure effective crowd and safety management during the festival.

The committee will be led by the Deputy Collector and Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Bicholim. Its members include the Deputy Superintendent of Police and SDPO, Bicholim, the Fire Safety Officer, Executive Engineers from the Public Works (Buildings) and Electricity Departments, a representative from the Shree Lairai Saunsthan managing committee, and the Secretary of the Shirigao Village Panchayat. The Mamlatdar of Bicholim will serve as the Member Secretary.

The panel has been tasked with examining applications for setting up stalls, taking into account the recommendations of a fact-finding committee. Based on its review, it will forward proposals to the DDMA for final approval.

Additionally, the committee will be responsible for ensuring that only approved stall layouts are implemented at the venue and that any unauthorized structures are promptly removed.

Officials said the committee is expected to submit its report to the DDMA by April 10, 2026, as part of efforts to maintain order and public safety during the large-scale religious gathering.
