Mangaluru, Apr 9: St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Mangaluru, celebrated 'Go for Gold-2026', its annual athletic meet at the college grounds on Tuesday, April 7 organized by the department of physical education and sports & wellness group.
Mohit Kamat, former International badminton player, co-founder & CEO Baddyzone Sports Club was the chief guest on the occasion who inaugurated the event by hoisting the flag. Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, director of SJEC, Dr Rio D’Souza, principal, Dr K Jyothi, dean student welfare, Priya Miranda, chairperson of sports & wellness group, Chitharanjan, convener, Himani Kishan Raj, co-convenor and Vaneesha V Rodrigues, physical education director, were present on this occasion.






























A colorful and enthusiastic march past by students was presented at the college ground after which the hoisting of the flag by the dignitaries took place. As a symbolic gesture, students who participated in National Level Sports events were handed over the burning torch by the guest post which the chief guest declared the meet open. Dr K Jyothi, introduced the chief guest and welcomed the gathering.
Addressing the gathering Mohit Kamat urged students to choose sports for fitness purpose as it will be very helpful from many perspectives. He highlighted the importance of sports in an individual's career as well as opportunities available in the sports field.
The inaugural was followed by a series of athletic events throughout the day that witnessed the active participation of both students as well as staff in huge numbers. An oath was administered by Trivia Creda Veigas, III-year CSE. She has represented VTU in south zone inter university shuttle badminton tournament held at VTU, Belagavi, emerged as winners in VTU Mangaluru division & emerged as II runner-up in VTU state level shuttle badminton tournament, emerged as winners in VTU Mangaluru division & VTU state level shuttle badminton tournament in the year 2025. She was also awarded the best women player of the tournament. The formal programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Himani Kishan Raj. Joel D’Mello and Florence Nishmitha compered the event.
The valedictory programme concluded with prize distribution and DJ.
