New Delhi, Apr 8: Hockey India has announced a 24-member Indian women’s hockey team for an upcoming tour of Argentina, scheduled to be held in Buenos Aires from April 13 to 17.
The four-match exposure series comes at a crucial stage for India as they prepare for major upcoming events, including the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 and the Asian Games.
The squad blends experienced players with emerging talent, reflecting the steady rise of Indian women’s hockey under chief coach Sjoerd Marijne. Midfielder Salima Tete will continue to lead the side as captain, bringing stability and energy to the midfield.

A major highlight is the return of forward Deepika, who rejoins the squad after rehabilitation. Known as India’s primary drag-flicker, her comeback adds depth and experience to the attacking unit.
During her absence, players like Navneet Kaur, Manisha Chauhan, Udita, and Annu stepped up impressively, with Annu particularly standing out for her drag-flicking abilities. With Deepika back, the team appears more balanced heading into a demanding international season.
Veteran goalkeeper Savita also returns after missing recent qualifiers, strengthening India’s defense. Meanwhile, young goalkeeper Bichu Devi impressed during her stint, showcasing strong reflexes and composure, ensuring healthy competition for the position.
Defender Jyoti and forward Mumtaz Khan also make their return, further boosting the squad. Players like Baljeet Kaur and Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke have been consistent performers, while emerging talents such as Rutuja Dadaso Pisal, Ishika, and Sakshi Rana continue to show promise.
Speaking on the selection, Marijne highlighted the importance of the tour in building squad depth and testing combinations against top-tier opposition like Argentina.
