Tehran, Apr 6: Iran has issued a stern warning following remarks by US President Donald Trump threatening to target Tehran’s power plants and bridges, escalating tensions between the two nations.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said the country would respond firmly to any attack on its infrastructure, asserting that its armed forces are fully prepared.

“Our armed forces have made it clear that in case Iran's infrastructure is attacked, we would react in kind,” Baghaei said, as reported by Al Jazeera.

He further warned that any retaliation would target similar infrastructure linked to the United States. “Our armed forces would target any similar infrastructure that is owned or in any way related to the United States or contributes to their act of aggression against Iran,” he added.

The warning comes after Trump threatened military action if Tehran fails to reach an agreement with Washington and reopen the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz.

“There is a good chance, but if they don’t make a deal, I am blowing up everything over there,” Trump said in an interview, signalling a hardening stance.

Earlier, Trump had issued a strong ultimatum to Iran to reopen the Strait, warning of severe consequences. Reports indicate that Iran has rejected a proposal to reopen the route in exchange for a temporary ceasefire.

The sharp exchange of warnings has further heightened fears of a broader conflict in the region.
