Udupi: Coconut tree catches fire in Parkala, doused promptly

Udupi, Apr 6: A coconut tree located in the courtyard of a house on 1st Cross Road in front of the municipal sub-office at Parkala caught fire suddenly on Sunday afternoon, causing coconuts to burn and emit thick smoke.

According to reports, fire had been lit inside a compound on 2nd Cross Road, and due to strong winds, sparks flew and reached the top of a coconut tree belonging to Sheshagiri Shenoy. The flames gradually spread, setting the tree ablaze and causing the coconuts to burn and smoke.

The incident was noticed by Shenoy’s wife, who immediately alerted the fire department. Fire and emergency personnel rushed to the spot and successfully extinguished the blaze by spraying water, preventing further damage.
