UAE warns of strict action against illegal recruitment of domestic workers

Abu Dhabi, Apr 2: The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has issued a stern warning against the illegal recruitment of domestic workers, stating that unlicensed activities will attract immediate and strict action.

The ministry said it will not tolerate any entity operating without proper licences, emphasising that violators will face legal, administrative and financial penalties. These may include immediate closure of offices, suspension of business activities and referral to judicial authorities.

Officials clarified that recruiting domestic workers without authorisation constitutes a clear legal violation under UAE laws. Offenders could face both criminal and civil proceedings, along with hefty fines as part of enforcement measures.

MoHRE also urged residents to deal only with licensed and accredited recruitment agencies, advising the public to verify credentials through official channels before entering into agreements.

The ministry called on citizens and residents to report any illegal practices, stressing that the move is aimed at protecting workers’ rights, safeguarding customers from fraud, and ensuring a well-regulated labour market.

The directive forms part of broader efforts to strengthen oversight and maintain transparency in the UAE’s domestic workforce sector.
