Kadaba, Apr 2: The taluk of Kadaba has secured the first position not only in the district but also in the state in tax collection. Since being declared a new taluk, Kadaba has consistently secured the top position in tax collection every year. Continuing this trend, the taluk has surpassed its tax target for the current financial year, marking a milestone in the district’s development journey.

Kadaba has achieved 103 percent of its tax collection target. All 21 gram panchayats in the taluk have achieved 100 percent of the current year’s demand, which is considered a historic accomplishment. By exceeding the target and collecting 103 percent of the tax, Kadaba taluk has secured the first position in the district.

A total of Rs 3.41 crore has been collected in taxes. Targets are assigned to panchayats for collecting legally levied taxes on all commercial buildings, houses, and various industrial buildings within their jurisdiction. The annual target for the 21 gram panchayats in the taluk was Rs 3.34 crore. However, the gram panchayats have already collected more than Rs 3.41 crore in taxes.

Subrahmanya gram panchayat alone has collected more than Rs 1 crore in taxes. Additionally, Nelyadi gram panchayat collected Rs 33 lac, Kokradi gram panchayat Rs 29 lac, Ramakunja gram panchayat Rs 20 lac, Kutrupadi gram panchayat Rs 19 lac, Belandoor gram panchayat Rs 17 lac, Savanur gram panchayat Rs 16.5 lac, Alankaru gram panchayat Rs 16.4 lac, Bilinele gram panchayat Rs 15 lac, and Maradhal gram panchayat Rs 15 lac. All gram panchayats have successfully achieved more than 100 percent of their collection targets.

Tax collection has been possible due to citizens’ cooperation. Excluding old arrears, citizens have fully paid the current year’s taxes, thereby extending complete support to rural development. This achievement stands testimony to the efforts of the panchayat development officers, bill collectors, and the responsible taxpayers. Achieving more than 100 percent tax collection a month before the end of the financial year in March is considered a significant accomplishment for the taluk.

In taluk-wise progress, Kadaba recorded 103 percent, Moodbidri 99 percent, Ullal 96 percent, Sullia 95 percent, Beltangady 94 percent, Mulki 91 percent, Puttur 90 percent, Bantwal 89 percent, and Mangaluru 85 percent, bringing the district’s overall tax collection to 92 percent.

“Payment of taxes is one of the responsibilities of every citizen for achieving rural development. The government had also offered a five percent rebate during the initial three months. Through tax collection drives conducted across villages by the gram panchayats, and due to the efforts of the panchayat development officers and staff, this achievement has been made possible,” said taluk panchayat executive officer Naveen Kumar Bhandari H.
