Mangaluru, Apr 2: Lourdes Central School successfully conducted its three days Annual Residential Camp for the scouts, guides, cubs, and bulbuls from March 26 to 28.
The camp was effectively led by cub master Joshika D’Souza, flock leader Revathi Shet, scout master Sangeetha Salins and guide captain Thriveni P. The team was ably supported by Shankar, Shreyas, Praveen and Sudesh, whose contributions ensured the smooth organization and success of the camp.
The camp commenced on March 26th with students assembling on the school grounds. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Vasant Rao, president of the Local Association, Mangalore South who officially inaugurated the camp. The principal, Fr Johnson L Sequeira, addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of being prepared, encouraging students to face all challenges with confidence and courage.
A total of 53 students participated in the camp, including 15 scouts, 10 guides, 22 bulbuls, and 6 cubs. The students were divided into four patrols—Spark chasers, wild trekkers, green guardians, and storm squad to promote teamwork and leadership.
The first day featured activities such as flag construction, in which students learned skills of tying the flag. This was followed by the much-awaited cooking without fire activity, where students prepared a variety of dishes and confidently presented them. The day also included recreational activities, and concluded with a skit competition based on the 9 scout and guide laws, showcasing the students’ creativity and understanding of values.
The second day was filled with outdoor learning and adventure. Students visited the Pilikula Training Centre – Scout Bhavan, where the scouts and guides participated in an engaging hiking activity, enhancing their endurance and teamwork. The cubs and bulbuls took part in kite making. Under the guidance of leader trainer Anand Adiga, students learned essential scouting skills such as mapping, compass usage, knot tying, and gadget making. The evening concluded with a vibrant campfire, where students displayed their talents through skits, songs, dances, and action songs, fostering unity and enthusiasm.
The third day began with BP-6 exercises followed by the Sarva Dharma Prarthana, promoting discipline and spiritual harmony. The students then participated in the Pratham Sopan Test and gadget making, demonstrating the skills they had acquired during the camp.
Overall, the camp proved to be a highly enriching and memorable experience, providing students with valuable knowledge, practical skills, and opportunities to develop discipline, leadership, teamwork, and confidence.
