Udupi, Apr 2: In a significant action, police have arrested accused persons under the Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act (KCOCA) in connection with a cattle theft case reported from Hadiyangadi in Shirlalu village of Karkala taluk.

According to reports, on the night of September 29 last year around 2:15 am, the accused allegedly threatened Jayashree Poojary with a sword, barged into her cattle shed, and stole three cattle, which were later slaughtered.

Following the incident, a case was registered at Ajekar police station and Mohammad Yunis (31), Mohammad Iqbal alias Ikku (29), and Mohammad Nasir (28) were arrested and produced before the court. They were subsequently released on bail.

As it was later confirmed that the accused had committed the crime in an organised manner, police invoked the KCOCA Act and initiated steps to cancel their bail. Mohammad Yunis, Mohammad Iqbal alias Ikku, Mohammad Nasir, and another accused Shoukat Ali (36) have now been re-arrested and produced before the court. At present, all the accused are in judicial custody.
