Bantwal: Speeding car flings woman 10 feet into air; horrifying mishap caught on CCTV

Daijiworld Media Network - Bantwal

Bantwal, Apr 1: A 48-year-old woman sustained critical injuries after being hit by a speeding car while attempting to cross the road at Dasaragudde in Sajipamunnur village. The force of the impact was so severe that the victim was reportedly flung nearly 10 feet into the air before crashing onto the road.

The victim has been identified as Bharati (48), a resident of Boliyar village in Ullal taluk. The horrifying incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera and the footage has since gone viral on social media.

According to sources, Bharati, accompanied by her daughter Deepashree, had visited Sajipamoodu to offer prayers at the Guligajje Katte. The accident occurred on the Melkar-Mudipu state highway while she was trying to cross the road. A car travelling from Melkar towards Mudipu rammed into her at high speed.

Bharati, who suffered serious injuries in the mishap, was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Mangaluru, where she is currently undergoing treatment.

The Bantwal traffic police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Preliminary reports suggest that overspeeding by the car driver may have caused the accident; however, officials are yet to confirm the exact details.

Local residents have expressed outrage over the incident, citing a lack of pedestrian safety measures on the highway. Attributing the frequent accidents in the area to traffic violations and high speeds, they have urged the authorities to take immediate action and install speed breakers to prevent further tragedies.

You cannot blame the driver here..He was simply driving on his designated way..This utter gross neglegience while crossing the road , its a highway not a local road..What can we say..we dont realise the gravity of the situation and then we blame driver, speed etc etc

safety risks observed 1. Pedestrians in the live traffic lane This creates a direct struck-by-vehicle hazard. 2. No controlled crossing arrangement like zebra crossing, signal, traffic Police, cones, or barricades are visible. The Environment asks People to be crossing or lingering due to steps in an uncontrolled road zone. 3. Unsafe roadside access / steep steps The right-side access structure appears narrow and potentially steep. No handrail . This may create trip, slip, and fall risk, especially for children, elderly users, or in wet conditions. 4.No visible pedestrian segregation, No protected footpath, refuge island, guardrail, or safe standing zone is visible. Pedestrians can easily spill into vehicle space. 5. Limited warning to drivers No reflective markings, warning boards or pedestrian caution signs are visible. Drivers may detect the hazard too late.

Roads are built without logic. No pedestrian crossing, if its a highway there should be barricades so that no human ,animals trespass also , vehicle entering wrong side. So who is to be blamed the authorities, victim or the car.

The driver should have been careful and reduced the speed when he looks at any pedestrian from a long distance crossing the road. Some drivers tend to pass through before the pedestrians. The position both women were standing is utterly wrong and both could have lost their lives when vehicles are travelling at high speeds on highway. (Another incident) Imagine the father who went to pump air into his sons newly bought bicycles and died crossing the road in the same vicinity. The families left behind are already considered dead due to the bread winner's death. Sad reality of our so called new/ space technology roads - They must be renamed as Highways of Death

Being children of lesser and smaller Gods We do not value human lives and bodies. This is genetically embedded in our TCN mind sets. Can we not afford to designated and mark pedestrian crossing s Our mind set is already forged. Pumpwell eastwords speed breakers with zebra crossing are installed. Great job one would say. In just 2 days at on speed breakers 10% of reflectors have come out. So Where is the accountability of our tax money spent on this project????? Another observation is a person extends his hand expecting a speeding vehicle to stop. Is this a Standard operating procedure.

She is just 48 but assuming the young wman behind her and from the visible sense the victim look much older then 48!🙏 Here age is not the subject but one who crosses the highway without any caution and simply rushing. Logic is not important, what forced to meet the fate is much more more sensible.

It is clearly evident from the video the woman suddenly ran from the middle of the road onto the incoming car. The car driver had applied the brakes and the car stopped immediately after the impact. It is claimed they were crossing the road to put some money into the offering box erected on the opposite side of the road. The authorities should remove them from the highways or they should allow the trustees to erect them on both the sides of the road.

In India, all are in a hurry. Be it drivers or pedestrians, none are aware of the road rules. No signs, markings, speed limits, give way, round about rules etc. When the licence is issued with out any basic knowledge, this is the result. Pedestrians are thare ways a victim fue to no footpaths, zebra markings, overhead or underground pathways. With overflowing vehicles with limited infrastructure, we all be under stress ech day.

Are there speed limit signs..???….Any pedestrian zebra crossing area?????…….Just built roads like Kambala race!?!?!?!??…There is no proper pedestrian side walk. More of distracting advertising sign boards than safety signs.

We can't blame the driver because the mother and daughter seem to be in a hurry and or impatient to wait for the traffic flow to be cleared before taking a step.

It is always safer crossing the road holding each others hand. But common sense should prevail always . But not on highways where vehicles travel on high speed. Extremely sad thing.

Pedestrian made mistake of stopping center of road instead of making sure the road is safe to cross the car driver can’t completely stop on higway if there is no proper barricade available for notifying pedestrians crossing area.

Mother and daughter were together while crossing the road. It should have been daughters duty to gide her elderly mother not to rush unless the length of the road was clear of any incoming vehiclular flow. Its a road meant for movement of vehicles in both the directions and pedestrians need to exercise great sense caution whilst crossing. It's a miraculous escape from major calamity. Let's hope for a speedy recovery of the victim.
