Mangaluru, Apr 1: In a tragic incident reported under the Kavoor police station limits, two youths drowned after their small boat capsized in the Phalguni river at Kunjathbail in the early hours of Wednesday, April 1.

The deceased have been identified as Ganesh (28) and Royal (24), son of Vincent Fernandes and Jacintha Fernandes.

Both the victims residents of Kunjathbail.

According to police sources, a group of three youths—Ganesh, Royal, and Nitesh (29)—had ventured into the river in a small country boat for fishing at around 1:30 am. When they reached the middle of the river, the boat suddenly overturned, throwing all three into the water.

While Nitesh managed to swim to safety and reach the shore, Ganesh and Royal, who reportedly did not know how to swim, were swept away by the currents.

Following the incident, personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services, along with local diving experts, launched a search operation. By Wednesday afternoon, the body of Ganesh was recovered from the river. Efforts are currently underway to trace Royal’s body.

Kavoor police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.

Boats tilt/ capsize in turbulent water. Small river near Kavoor does not have such winds, unless the weight is not equalised. All the weight of three friends went on one side. This happens when the trio could have lost mental balance due to heavy intoxication. This boating/ fishing may not be first time to this trio. We all Parents should learn a lesson and keep growing kids under total control and fear that to be inculcated from small age of children. All members of the family must be at home for prayers and dinner. Let God give strength to both demised to bear the loss.
