Kasganj, Apr 1: A protest erupted in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district as several women took to the streets opposing the proposed opening of a country liquor shop in a residential locality.

The demonstration took place in Gangeshwar Colony along Saraswati Shishu Mandir Road, where residents, particularly women, raised slogans against the authorities. Protesters objected to the location of the outlet, stating that it lies between a residential neighbourhood and a route frequently used by schoolchildren.

Voicing concern, locals said the liquor shop could lead to antisocial activities and pose a threat to the safety of women and school-going girls in the area.

One of the protesters, Pallavi Bhardwaj, said the agitation would continue until authorities either cancel the licence or relocate the outlet.

The protest led to a road blockade, disrupting traffic for several hours.

Police personnel reached the spot following information about the agitation and attempted to pacify the protesters. Circle Officer Aanchal Chauhan said the matter is under examination and a report will be submitted to senior officials after considering the objections raised by residents for an appropriate decision.
