Beijing/Islamabad, Apr 1: China and Pakistan have jointly proposed a five-point peace initiative aimed at de-escalating ongoing regional tensions and promoting dialogue.

The statement was issued following discussions between Wang Yi and Mohammad Ishaq Dar.

The proposal calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities and urges all parties to prevent further escalation while ensuring humanitarian assistance reaches affected regions.

It also emphasises the need to initiate peace talks at the earliest, stressing that sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national security of Iran and Gulf nations must be respected. The two countries underlined that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to conflict resolution.

China and Pakistan further called for strict adherence to international humanitarian norms, urging all sides to halt attacks on civilians and non-military infrastructure, including energy and nuclear facilities.

Highlighting the importance of global trade routes, the statement stressed the need to ensure safe and uninterrupted passage through the Strait of Hormuz, calling for protection of commercial vessels and restoration of normal shipping activity.

The initiative also reaffirmed the importance of multilateralism and urged adherence to the principles of the United Nations Charter to achieve a comprehensive and lasting peace framework.
